Today we honor those in our buildings who take care of SO MANY things. Where would we be without the SUPERHERO Nurses that are in our schools who care for our students on so many levels? Thank you to the amazing WCPS School Nursing Staff! #WashingtonWay @WashCoSuper
Families,
We often take for granted the time that teachers spend with our children. However, it is in those moments that lifelong lessons are learned that leave a legacy. Please reach out to your child’s teachers to thank them for the legacy they are helping you build through empowering our most valuable resource; our children.
Thank you,
Dr. Perrigan

Today Abingdon High School had their official ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated entrance to the building. This new entrance adds a layer of security to the building - added bonus: It looks great!
Thanks to everyone who attended our ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the upgrades to the front of AHS, the addition of a security vestibule, and the construction of a new SRO office.

Where would WCPS be without the amazing professionals who work tirelessly behind the scenes each day? They are the faces of our schools, the voices on the phones, and the supporters of our entire staff. We appreciate all that our administrative professionals do to keep our schools running! #WashingtonWay. @WashCoSuper
There aren't enough words to express our gratitude to the Transportation Department and each of the school bus drivers who make it their mission to safely transport the students of WCPS! Thank you for your dedicated service! #WashingtonWay @WashCoSuper
A big thanks to members of the AHS National Honor Society for participating in Washington County Day of Service. They did a great job upgrading the landscaping in front of AHS.
Congrats to Maggie G. at AHS! She was rewarded with a gift for creating the best two-week lunch menu. Ms. Dotson's Digital Applications class used database applications for this project. The School Nutrition Dept. will continue collaborating with students to update menus.
A few minutes ago staff at Abingdon High School were made aware that a student had verbalized that another student was in possession of gun. Staff implemented our lockdown protocols and immediately began to investigate. Thankfully through the investigation we able to determine that the statement was not true. We appreciate the fast response by the Abingdon Police Department and the collaboration with the Washington County Sheriff's Department. We will follow our policy and handbook to ensure that the situation is addressed appropriately. Please join us in reminding our students and children that school safety is a very serious matter. We appreciate your support and understanding. Please let us know if you have additional questions or concerns.
Washington County Schools cannot be more thankful for and proud of the actions of GSMS Custodian Dustin Forrester.

Heating/Cooling Update:
During this transition time in Spring, it is always difficult to determine when to "switch over" the heat to air conditioning. Once the switch is made, it is very difficult and time consuming to switch back. Therefore, we try to determine the most effective time to make that switch.
After consultation with school administrators and staff it was decided to begin the process. All the schools with boilers have the heat turned off and the process of switching over has begun. The schools with cooling towers will be able to have air as soon as the process of cleaning the towers is complete. This process is anticipated to be completed by early next week.
Thank you for your understanding,
WCPS Schools
