Foreign Language receives a check from Walmart

4 teachers standing in front of school sign holding an over sized check On Wednesday, November 16, 2016, Abingdon High School’s Foreign Language Department was presented with a $1000 check by David Reed of Walmart as part of Walmart’s Community Grant Program.  It is the goal of the AHS language teachers to provide opportunities for acquiring 21st Century learning of language skills through the use of technology; therefore, (and in an attempt to show added support to Washington County Public Schools’ 1 to 1 Chromebook Initiative) the Foreign Language department will purchase eight Chromebooks (in addition to the eight already in use) to allow students who have not been issued Chromebooks the opportunity to practice those skills.  It is the hope of the AHS Foreign Language department that through the use of technology in the classroom that students will increase their writing, interpreting, and listening skills and will become doers and creators in the language through more personalized learning opportunities.

Boys Cross Country Team

boys cross country boys standing in uniform together after a running event Congratulations to the Boys' Cross Country team for being the State Runner-Up at the VHSL Cross Country Championships recently which is the highest a boys team from Abingdon has ever finished in school history!! Congratulations to Karl T. for winning the 3A State Championship! Karl is the first from Abingdon to win since 2006!

Karl and Ethan B. earned places on the All-State team. Jordan D., Josh R. and Noah W. ran personal record times.  Members of the team representing AHS were: Andrew A., Ethan B., Jordan D., Luke I., Finn J., Josh R., Mason R., Karl T., and Noah W..  The team would like to thank Mr. King and Mr. Long for their support!!  Way to go, Falcons!!!
