Daily Announcements

  • Cross Country and Football players who plan to run indoor track need to pick up a uniform from Coach Rutledge at practice on Tuesday for the Winter Sports Picture on Thursday.
  • Sophomores, if you are interested in attending the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar at JMU on June 1-3 please come by and see Ms Noe in the guidance office no later than Friday, Nov 17.
  • Attention French Club members- you and your partner need to bring your shoeboxes and items by Wednesday 15th. Drop them off in the French room with Mr Mccall. 
  • Enjoy public speaking? Join Forensics & Debate! Like Politics? Come to the Forensics/Debate interest meeting on Wednesday, Nov 15 after school in Dr Hurd's room 201. Attendance to the meeting is required for participation. 
  • Balfour for Senior orders will be here this morning. 
  • Winter sports pictures will be after school on Thursday- followed by the parent meeting. 
  • Band Bingo will be held on Saturday in the cafe. Start time is 4pm- doors will open at 3. Come and support the AHS band in this fun fundraiser. 
  • On Friday, November 10th, 9 juniors and seniors competed in the UVA-Wise Math and Science Competition. The students were the 1st place team for both the math and science test for the Large School Division. In addition we had individual students stand out in both of the areas. Congrats! 
  • Attention Scholastic Bowl team- there will not be practice after school on Wednesday. We will be leaving at 3:15 on Thursday for Union High School. Remember to pack a dinner.
  • There will be a Project Discovery meeting after school today in the library.
  • Congratulations to the boys' cross country team for their second place finish at the VHSL CC Championships Saturday for only the third time in school history! Congrats to both the boys and girls who participated in the championships! 
  • Attention Community Scholars- The boys and girls club in Abingdon is needing volunteers to assist with events, meals, and using your talents to play games, and help children. The opportunites are endless. Please see Ms Kendrick in the guidance office for more information.

  • Hampton Sydney will be here Nov 14 @ 12pm to meet with any Junior or Senior who may be interested in attending. 
  • Juniors- all candy money is due as oon as possible. Please try to have your money turned in by Thursday, Nov 16. Money is due to Ms Beverly in room 121.
  • Students and Teachers- a reminder of the AHS12 food drive for Puerto Rico. Take items to your 3rd prd teacher until Thanksgiving break. 
  • Musical Audtions will be Monday and Tuesday after school. See Ms King in the chorus room for any question and to sign up.
  • The BAM book fair will be at the AHS library on Nov 10th from 10:30-2:30.

  • The AHS12 food drive for Puerto Rico starts today adn will run for 2 weeks. Bring canned food items that do not need to be cooked or cases of water to help people in need and your third period class will possible win a pizza party! 
  • Congrats to the winners of the annual Young Playwrights Festival of Barter Theatre. Jamie K. won first place out of 393 plays submitted regionally. John F. was a top 20 finalist and Claire A., Mhari R., and Alex M. were semifinalist. Good job to all of the students to competed. 
  • Want to compete in public speaking? Join the Debate Team and Forensics. The interest meeting will be next Wednesday, Nov 15 right after school in Dr. Hurd's room 201. Attendance is mandatory for participation.

  • The AHS12 will be collecting non-perishable food items and water starting this Wednesday to help families in Puerto Rico. The third period class with the most items collected by percentage will earn a pizza party. See you third period teacher for more information. 
  • Bus duty this afternoon will be in the auditorium.
  • Students that drive to school. You must have a current parking permit tag in your car. It is a priviledge to drive and park in the school parking lot. The 5.00 fee for the permit goes to school activites during the yeaer (such as carnival inflatables). See Ms Harr in the main office to purchase. 
  • This is a reminder that school will be closed tomorrow for Election Day. This is an optional teacher flex workday for teachers.
  • The Community Center in Abingdon is needing volunteers to assist with several events in Nov and Dec. They are asking for help with Meals On Wheels, Bingo, the Christman Market, and much more. Please see Ms Kendrick in guidance for more information.

  • Track will practice outside at the track today. Meet on the bleachers.
  • No wrestling practice today. Anyone interested in wrestling will need to meet at the fieldhouse tomorrow at 2:00.
