CALL TO ORDER Pres. Cathy Matthews called the meeting of the Abingdon High School PTSA to order at 11:30AM. Quorum was established shortly thereafter. Agendas**, minutes** and reports** were distributed. APPROVAL OF MINUTES** Lisa K. moved that the minutes of the March meeting be approved; Dede G. seconded. Motion passed. Minutes will be posted on the AHS PTSA website. PTSA EVENING MEETING AND SPEAKER Cathy M. stated that the evening meeting and procurement of speaker on topic of “Diversity” is tabled until next year (see minutes from meeting in March). 2012 PTSA YARD SALE RECAP Lisa K. reported that net proceeds from the sale were $1,375 ($200 was raised from the Kyle Buckland painting). It was determined that criteria regarding “early shopping” be revised and implemented. Lisa K. has the signage, bags, etc. for next year. Also, it was agreed upon that a committee be formed at the July meeting to manage the yard sale in 2013. 2012-2013 OFFICER NOMINATING COMMITTEE APPOINTMENT Per by-laws governing PTSA, the president may form a committee, voluntarily or by appointment, whose goal is to secure a slate of nominees for consideration as members of the PTSA Executive Board. A committee will be voluntarily formed prior to May’s meeting and Cathy M. will send an e-mail to determine which of the current board members will be returning next year. UPCOMING HOSPITALITY EVENTS May 8th is National Teachers’ Day ---- Lisa K. noted that we have $450 to work with for this event. Beckie proposed that we use Baby Cakes to provide the treats and that 2 volunteers, in addition to herself, staff that event --- Lisa K. immediately volunteered which leaves a deficit of 1. The second and final hospitality event for the school year is the “End of Year Teacher Luncheon.” Cathy M. suggested using the Hot Dog Stand for the main course with volunteers supplementing with sides and desserts. Cathy M. is to contact and coordinate the details with the Hot Dog Stand (will plan for 120). SCA REPORT Shelley reported on the following SCA Projects: The “Heels to Heal” charitable fundraiser will kick-off on Wednesday, May 11th. Upon the final collection of shoes, the TSA will transport to Nashville; “Bandana Bracelets” will go on sale May 11th at $2.00 per bracelet; SCA is still volunteering at Feeding America, and; the possibility of a booth at Plumb Alley Day to sale leftover bandana bracelets and coffee is currently being discussed. Shelley informed the board that the SCA will be presenting a scholarship to 1 Senior SCA member in the amount of $250 or $300 and that cotton candy will be provided at lunch (date to be determined) for all students. Lastly, Shelley stated that officer elections for the SCA are tentatively scheduled for April 16th – 20th. TREASURER’S REPORT** Lisa K. presented the monthly treasurer’s report for March. Lisa reported that expenses for March included the water bill, 8th grade orientation, and the yard sale. Lisa noted that thus far the PTSA has made $3,474 with remaining expenditures of $1,000 for scholarships and $500 for hospitality related events – thus, leaving approximately $2,000 in the black! EXCELLENT!! NEW BUSINESS Restroom and gymnasium issues will be addressed under the direction of Mr. Wallace. Pres. Cathy M. advised that the next PTSA meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 11:30AM in the library. Meeting adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Lisa Johnson, Secretary ** Denotes a handout |
